Weekend with the Bestie

December 16, 2012 - Pic #351

While roaming around waiting for Jess's train to arrive, we decided that Christmas has puked all over Penn Station. Lights and presents and decorations everywhere, pretty much just like the rest of the city.
This Santa and reindeer lure folks into to a jolly-good time at a commuter's bar and restaurant. Santa may look content now, but I'm pretty sure he's not going to be able to fly his sleigh after he chugs that beer.

It's official, holiday craft markets are where EVERYONE goes on Saturdays in December. Trying to walk through the aisles at the Columbus Circle Holiday Market was pretty much the worst thing ever (except for walking around Rockefeller Plaza at night which was actually the worst thing ever). But, at least there were pretty and cute things to look at! I always love the puppet stands because my mom got me a puppet when I was a kid (Princess Roslyn). These folks look like they could be singing Christmas carols, except for the dude directly behind the chef, who may have had one too many eggnogs.

Yay... Jess came to visit! It's been way too long - since December 2010, in fact. We did our usual... lots of meal dates, flea markets, and movies, of course. Here we are on our way to see Silver Linings Playbook, which turned out to be fantastic. Nothing like a little dysfunctional love story to warm your heart at Christmas time.

Happy Early Birthday Me!

December 9, 2012 - Pic #344

Yesterday I spent all day inside updating my blog. It felt simultaneously productive and unproductive. So today I ventured out into the city with a list of errands and a killer iPod playlist. Got decorations for the party, grocery shopped, did three loads of laundry, cleaned house, rearranged furniture, and best of all, found my birthday shoes! It is now 9:30, dinner is finally ready... and I realized I did not even think about doing my homework. It's going to be a long night...

Let's take a step back and enjoy the view.

I know, I know. I'm spoiled. Had a bit of time to kill, so I took the extra long way home and walked along the East River from the Seaport to 23rd st. Can't complain about living in NY :).

You dirty rat.

August 22, 2012 - Pic #235

RAT. Whenever I see one of these, I am immediately taken back to that horrible Spring 2006 semester at NYU when the grad students took over Washington Square Park with their woes. I was not a fan. This guy, however, was conveniently placed three feet from the Fulton Street subway stairs, blocking all traffic and frightening many commuters emerging from the tunnels. Well done!

I won't grow up!

Been AGES since I've been to see a Broadway show. Peter and the Star Catcher was a great welcome back. Definitely worth seeing!

Sometimes I feel extra stupid

August 13, 2012 - Pic #226

I honestly don't know if this is a joke or not... they are all over the subway stations near Wall Street.

Pertyful

Pic # 222 - August 9, 2012

This city is beautiful. It's easy to forget that, sometimes.

Rust and Whimsy.

Pic #218 - August 5, 2012

Street fairs on 116th Street are about as common as ... Saturdays. Sesi and I walked through this one as it was shutting down. I'm not sure who would go on a rickety carnival ferris wheel in the first place, but it was the first ride to be taken apart. The bubbles added some needed magic.

We're a good looking bunch.

Sadly, Tali is leaving us for grad school in Philly. Last night was her going away party, where Posse (among many other friends) gathered to bid her farewell.

A stroll through the park

Pic #215 - August 2, 2012

Had a dentist appointment this morning in Harlem so I decided to work the remainder of the day at home. Saw these gentlemen walking the Metro North Track at about Noon. I would definitely not want that job!

Tuesday, July 31, 2012

It's official.

Stuck on this island for another year! And many more, I'm sure. Tara moved in and we signed a new lease today. Woot!

Monday, July 30, 2012

Um, really?

Pic #212 - July 30, 2012

Hm. I guess people were really desperate for a seat...

Sunday, July 29, 2012

And many more!

Happy Birthday, Sesi! Went to a birthday brunch at Amy Ruth's (Chicken and Waffles) in East Harlem. Delicious... and awesome star lights.

Mooooooooo

Pic #209 - July 27, 2012

Yankees/Red Sox game with Matt, Carrie and Sesi was a success! Well, for the Yankees fans, at least :).  Unfortunately we had to 'moo' our way home through the commuter cattle in a billion degree subway heat.

I wanna play!

Pic #206 - July 24, 2012

I wish I had a boat. And a team of people to row it for me.

Worth $87

Pic #204 - July 22, 2012
Did you know movies cost $14 in NYC now? FOURTEEN. That's ridiculous. Though if you go to an AMC movie before noon, it's only $7. I remember when regular movies cost $6.50... I'm so old and bitter.

Dad Day!

Pic #203 - July 21, 2012

Had a wonderful day with Dad in the city: Earl's Beer and Cheese, the Intrepid Museum, a Circle Line Harbor Lights tour, Holy Creme for dessert, and Dad's introduction to Harry Potter movies. Lesson Learned: It is NOT a good idea to go to the Intrepid the first weekend the Enterprise is open for business, unless waiting in endless lines (without a roller coaster at the end) is your idea of fun. At least we had plenty of conversation time :).

Must be raining cats and dogs

Pic #200 - July 18, 2012

Came down to the lobby during a crazy storm to find a bunch of scared commuters waiting out the rain.

MAGIC

Pic #199 - July 17, 2012

In case you've ever wondered what sort of magic changes the ads at bus stops... now you know! Witnessed this bright and early this morning outside my apartment building.

Friday, July 6, 2012

Yeah, cuz I got it like that.

Pic #188 - July 6, 2012

Every time I see these crazy kids break dancing on the street, I think... sure... I can do that! Of course in reality, I can barely do the Chicken Dance. I guess I'll leave spinning handstands to the pros.
