I'm glad I don't have to push my desk to work every day

Pic #94 - 4/3/12

Major props to this fella, who pushed his fruit cart (at least) three avenues, from Park to Lennox on 116th Street. I'm not a fast walker, but I'm not slow, either... and he kept up quite a pace. How curious different professions are. I've seen food cart workers pushing their goods before, but something about this man and his trek really humbled me. I'll try not to complain about my moderate walk to the subway, anymore!

Fastest way to decrease your neighborhood's appeal

Pic #93 - 4/2/12

If I posted this yesterday you might think it was a joke. But no. This is a real heaping pile of garbage stinking up the street. I see it about once per week outside the Popeye's on 116th street near Lennox. Hate.

T'was a gloomy Sunday

Pic #92 - 4/1/12

No pranks for me today. Wasn't feeling well and had lots to do... so this snapshot out the window plus a few trips to the laundry mat were as much as I saw of the outside world. Welcome, April!

My newest obsession...

Pic #91 - 3/31/12

This is the main reason I got almost nothing done today. Secondary reasons include Battlestar Galactica and Cupcake Wars.

Pottery Balloons

Pic # 90

Had a lovely evening painting pottery with T and C at the Little Shop of Crafts. This ends my balloon week!

Formerly known as balloons

So, to continue with "balloon week" ...

Pic 89 - 3/29/12

Even sadder balloons than yesterday's. Once you start looking for balloons...you see them everywhere!

Apparently...this week's theme is "Balloons"

Pic #88 - 3/28/12

Lost/caught/deflated balloons are always sad. But, after the pics on Monday and Tuesday, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to highlight mylar and helium on Wednesday, too.

I found the masculine balloons...sort of.

Pic #87 - 3/27/12

Mike looks like he could be one of the balloons himself :). He carried these all over lower Manhattan to deliver them to Joe's going-away party.

Masculine mylar balloons are hard to find...

Pic #86 - 3/26/12

I love party stores. I went in for one balloon and came out with two, plus a dozen other little things I really don't need.

OF COURSE there are two twelves...

Pic #85 - 3/25/12

One episode 12 just wasn't enough, so Season 4 of Battlestar Gallactica has two 12s :). Happy surprise.

Spring is in the air

The trees on 116th St. finally bloomed.

Dinner and a Show

Pic #83 - 3/23/12

Zack and I went to a magic show that included a pre-fixe dinner at Tout Va Bien. Super delicious and fun! Notice anything special about his cards?

May the odds be EVER in your favor...

Waiting in line for the midnight showing of The Hunger Games! Tara and I saw it in IMAX ... amazing. Who wants to go see it with me again

"Nice tooth!"

Posse night! This is my friend, Laura, and her bangin' silver tooth :).

Happy Spring!

Pic #80 - 3/20/12

First day of Spring...technically. In practice, it's like the third month of Spring...

They say it's the last day of Winter...

Pic #79 - 3/19/12

But if you ask this guy, I bet he'd say it's the first day of Spring ;-).

Try to "F-Stop" me now!

Today I did something I've talked about doing for a long time... I took a photography class! How appropriate for this pic project, eh? I admit, when I embarked on this 2012 adventure I envisioned using my fancy Nikon camera a whole lot more - however, in reality I don't bring it with me very many places, and so my pictures have almost all been taken with my iPhone/Instagram. For sentimentality purposes this is fine with me. I'm concerned more with the content than the quality. It's time to get real though... enter "F-Stops" photo workshop at the New York Public Library :).

Dorothy and I found an incredibly affordable workshop price using Amazon Local Deals. Check it out: Two-Hour Photography Workshop. I imagine there will be more deals like this one if you are interested. We took the "F-Stops" class today, which covered the basics of using camera settings to control ISO, Aperture (measured in "f-stops"), and Shutter Speed. It was sort of a whirlwind course, but I think I retained most of it :). For two hours, Dorothy and I essentially frolicked along the steps and surrounding areas of the NYPL, posing for one another's assignments. This involved a lot of literal running and jumping (see bonus pics below). Several of the assignments had to do with purposefully blurring either foreground or background pictures...so yes, they suck on purpose.

I can't say any of the photos I took are brilliant, or even as nice as ones I've been able to take in the past. I'm pretty good with 'auto' ;-). However, it was an awesome learning experience, and I'm excited to get into the nitty-gritty of the manual settings on my next photography adventure.

Dorothy snapped this one while the instructor was coaching me on a how to over-expose a picture. I put it through Instagram just to be ironic :).

No pots of gold for me today...

Neither this charming leprechaun nor his cute shadow could lead me to my treasure.

Social Experiment?

Pic #76 - 3/16/2012

Sketchiest wine tasting ever? Social experiment? Both? I don't know. What I do know is that I walked 5 blocks to find the address after spotting this sign posted on a corner street lamp...and I found no wine.

I heart NY.

Pic #75

So many things I love about this picture. Not the grainy-ness...but, you know ;-).
